Description: Opéra Construction date: 1866 - 1873 Style: Art-Déco WWI: Bombed and burned Features: The opera celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. In 1860, the need to provide the city with a large theater became more and more pressing. In 1866 only 48 architectural projects are in competition. The architectural style and interior design are inspired by both the Garnier Opera and the Lyric Theater of Paris. At its peak, the hall reaches the height of 33 m and can accommodate more than 1,200 spectators as well as an orchestra of 50 musicians.
